What tools and equipment do riders typically carry?

First, all the required items, like a first aid kit. Let's not miss those right out of the gate.

The most often overlooked item is somewhere to put your time card. It's paper, and paper works best when dry. So make a plan to have somewhere to put a 5.5x8.5 (a half sheet) of paper somewhere. You can fold it and put it in your pocket... if your pocket is waterproof. Otherwise, bring a ziplock bag or plan to put it in a tank bag.

The riders at the front carry a small tool kit. A couple wrenches, a couple hex keys, that's probably it. The bikes are well prepped and should easily go the 60 miles till they get back to service.

The riders at the rear carry a medium sized tool kit. Not because they need them, but more out of habit. Most dual sport riders leave the same tool kit and supplies on the bike that they always ride with. So there's going to be more screwdrivers and tape and whatever else they can stuff in.

No one is carrying a spare tube, or spanners, or planning to handle taking wheels off. Because if that happens, your race is pretty much over anyway, so one would catch a lift back to the service area and fix it there, not out on stage.

Everyone will carry water, naturally, and maybe a snack, since you never know when there might be a delay.
