Flat Right 6 into Black River Stages!

volunteer flier

Black River Stages on May 30 is just around the corner and coming up fast!  We're getting excited for race day in upstate NY as preparations continue for BRS.

"For this first year we have a small entry field which was expected, but are happy to have enough entries to charge forward with the event.  The response from volunteers who had a long history with the event has been very good.  We are happy to get this event off the ground again and look forward to a reliable offering for stage rally community in future years. A big thank you to our competitors and volunteers who are working to make this happen.  And a big thank you to the authorities for the town of Croghan, NY and Diana NY for their willingness to work with us and help getting things ready." -Perry Seaman, BRS organizer.

For this first year, the event will be 64 stage miles consisting of Jerden Falls and Kimball's Mill roads (the gravel sections).  We have racers in cars, Side by Sides, and motorcycles competing in the event. Anyone interested in checking out the action has several opportunities:

  • Starting Friday evening from 6 to 7 PM all the racers will be at The Red Rooster Diner in Croghan, NY for parc expose, which is basically a car show for the race cars and some of the safety sweep cars.  The public are welcome to stop by, talk to the racers and volunteers, and check out their machines.
  • All day Friday and Saturday the service park will be setup at the Harrisville Rod and Gun Club next to KD's Outskirtz Saloon.  All are welcome to come see the pit areas for the race teams. On Friday, this will be most active generally in the early afternoon, and on Saturday the racers will have a stop for service for an hour starting at approximately 1PM.
  • Saturday Morning the race will kickoff with a parc expose again, this time in Harrisville NY at the village parking area across from two restaurants, the Mystic River Cafe, and the Village Inn.
  • During Saturday's racing there are spectator locations available to see the live racing.  Check out https://blackriverstages.com/spectate/ for more info.

Usually, the best way to see the action and learn a bit about rally is to volunteer!  BRS still needs help from people like you to staff all the positions available. After helping out for the day volunteers are invited to attend the awards ceremony where we will buy you a drink and you can exchange rally stories with competitors and watch the awards get handed out.

Right now we could use another 15 or so people to be marshals and to work the start and finish locations.  Being a marshal means we will put you at a blocked intersection on the race route and ask that you watch it to prevent any non race traffic from entering the course. This is basically having your own personal spectator point!  Bring along a few friends and a cooler full of munchies and make a day of it while helping us out and getting a cool spot of your own for the day!  Similarly, working a start location is a more active role but we will train you for what you need to do, and you will be around the racers for much of the day personally meeting them and processing their timecards in and out of race stages.  You'll have a stage captain that has done all this before and is a great resource for someone who wants to learn more about the sport.  More info at https://www.nasarallysport.com/main/volunteer
