How do I set up a service spot?

First, find the service area. Make sure that you know where it is and how to get there.

Next, take a look at the schedule and figure out what kind of service this is. If you're going to be there all day, you'll probably set out the chairs and perhaps a grapes and a cheese platter. But if this is a ten minutes only service restricted to just refueling, there's no need to get out each and every box with spare parts and rarely used tools.

Plan ahead and figure out which other teams have similar cars, remember what they're using for crew vehicles, and park next to them. When the time comes to swap spares and help each other out, that will make it easier. Also, a good sight line to the entrance to the service area is nice.

One thing to scout out, beyond water, power, and bathrooms, is the location of the Official Notice Board, if it's present. It likely won't have anything for you at the moment, but your codriver will want to know where it is when they get there.

Another part of setting up the service area is being familiar with the area. So take a drive around the place, go five minutes in each direction, and make notes on gas stations, water sources, food sources, and possible convenient ditches or hills (if you needed to make an unusual trailer loading). The point is to pay attention to what's there, because the racers will be asking you, they won't see anything on their way in or out due to the red mist of race distraction.
